Message to Eleventh Grade Parents
Junior graduation project presentations are scheduled for February 20, 21, and 22. Your child has an assigned date and time. Please confer with your child to make certain their level of preparation is acceptable. Each student is evaluated on the paper, product, presentation, and works cited page. Each aspect of the graduation project is evaluated. If several aspects of the project are deemed acceptable, but one part not acceptable, the only work necessary is to revise the unacceptable part. I write this explanation to inform parents that the graduation project is not an all or nothing proposition. The only exception is that the revision must be completed in a timely fashion and prior to the end of the school year. Students that do not complete their graduation projects in their junior year will be required to schedule the graduation project as an independent study in their senior year. The graduation project is a requirement to receive a diploma at Bentworth High School.

Scheduling and Testing
Scheduling and Testing
February is a busy month at Bentworth High School. Eleventh grade students will take the PSSA writing assessments on February 12 and 13. (Students are required by Chapter 4 of the Pennsylvania Code to demonstrate that they are proficient, either on the PSSA tests or on local assessments adopted by the school district. The importance of these tests cannot be emphasized enough.)
In regard to scheduling for the 2008-2009 school year, Mrs. Downing and I will meet with each class as a whole beginning the week of February 4. Then, from February 6 – 9, Mrs. Downing will meet with the students during their English classes. (The junior class will be first on February 6, followed by the sophomores on February 7, and finally the freshman on February 8.) All 9-11th grade students must return their signed course selections sheets by February 21, 2008.
The eighth grade class presentations are scheduled for February 21. Additionally, an eighth grade parent curriculum night has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the high school library. Information regarding scheduling and curriculum will be answered that evening for eighth grade parents. The curriculum night is also available to parents of parochial students considering enrollment of their children for the 2008-2009 school year. All eighth grade course requests must be turned in by February 28.
Scheduling is very important and needs to be taken seriously. Parents are encouraged to read the 2008-2009 curriculum guide as they provide direction for their children. Once requests have been submitted, parents will only have one other opportunity to make requests for schedule adjustments, thus the need to pay careful attention to the scheduling process at the very beginning. If you have questions, please call the high school.
